Hotel Stern in the middle of the Dolomites “the most beautiful mountains of the world” (Reinhold Messner)
The Dolomites, a mountain formation in the east of South Tyrol, has been shaped millions
of years ago from coral reefs, and are nowadays part of the UNESCO World Nature
Heritage. They are an ideal destination for mountain hikers and climbers.
The mountainous panorama inspires already from the beginning
of the trip and one can say without exaggeration that these roads in the
Dolomites are the most beautiful mountain roads in the whole world. These roads
lead into the centre zone of the Dolomites, and these destinations carry famous
names as there are: Sciliar, Alpe di Siusi, Val Gardena, Catinaccio and Sella
group. Nowhere you can find more superlatives on such a small area as here. And
the hiker will be spoilt for choice between all this superb hikes in the
Dolomites.
Majestic
valleys and terrific mountain ranges offer a great choice of destinations for
every liking and can be adjusted to the fitness of the single visitor or hiker.
This area is specially fitting for your autumn holidays in the Dolomites.
Walks, hikes, day trips or tours are possible and, even if you repeat them again
and again, they will be always different. Because the Dolomites offer an
optical stimulus which is quite impossible to find in another place.
The highest mountain of the Dolomites is the
Marmolada with 3342 m height. Other generally known mountain massifs are the
Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Sesto Dolomites, The Sella group, the Catinaccio,
the Sciliar, the Odle group and the Sassolungo group. The extent of the
Dolomites is controversial. Traditionally the delimitation in the north is the
Val Pusteria, in the east Sesto, Passo Monte Croce and the Piave, in the south
the Piave again, and along the line Feltre-Genebe/Enego and the Valsugana, and
finally in the west the Val d’Adige and Val Isarco.
